All of which is why she writes romance novels that feature demons, dragons, wizards, witches, elves, elementals, and a bunch of random stuff that she brainstorms while riding the Boston T. Oh, and she includes lots of humor and kick-ass chicks, too. Christina lives in Newton, MA with her husband, son, and semi-insane golden retriever, Ruby.

Books give readers emotions. Good books give readers more than ONE emotion. The best books make a reader feel like they are living life along with the characters. Sparrow by Mary Cecilia Jackson does every single one of these things. For starters, there are so many books out there with multiple names, that it can be hard to find character names that stick out to readers. Sparrow is both a beautiful name and represents an unforgettable character.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

Novels that contain any kind of abuse can be hard to get through. A reader may have PTSD from dealing with it at some point in their lives. Others might just not enjoy reading that kind of thing at all. But writers who take their time to write through subjects such as this rather than around, to me are brave and have so much talent. In the past, I have read books with topics such as relationship abuse and ended up putting them down and never going back. But I had a whole different experience here, I sat down and read this in one sitting.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

I did find myself a tad annoyed by parts in this book, not because they weren’t well written but because I felt too much attention was given to parts that didn’t need as much attention. I think a huge portion of the book was dedicated to the abuse and pain, but only a small portion went to the healing. As a reader who felt for the characters, I watched them be beat up and hurt in more ways than one so naturally the only thing that would bring closure is the characters healing.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

Jackson did a really good job bringing two hard situations together and not making it feel weird or awkward. Sparrow, our main character, lost her mother at a young age and had multiple nightmares throughout the book all the while being abused by her boyfriend. It is easy to read through these different situations and see how both affect Sparrow without getting them confused and having a hard time understanding what she is going through. Sparrow as a character was an open book, I felt everything she felt which is one of the huge reasons why I wanted so badly to see her heal and feel better about both of her situations. She did get her closure, but it felt very rushed.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">
The Massachusetts School for the Feeble-Minded is not a happy place. The young women who are already there certainly don’t think so. Not Maxine, who is doing everything she can to protect her younger sister Rose in an institution where vicious attendants and bullying older girls treat them as the morons, imbeciles, and idiots the doctors have deemed them to be. Not Alice, either, who was left there when her brother couldn’t bring himself to support a sister with a club foot. And not London, who has just been dragged there from the best foster situation she’s ever had, thanks to one unexpected, life altering moment. Each girl is determined to change her fate, no matter what it takes.
Smart, good looking and charming, Jordan isn’t exactly the kind of person Elliot’s used to having as a lab partner. But when they start acing their assignments, life is suddenly about more than boring lectures, bad cafeteria nachos, or relentless bullying, and for the first time ever, Elliot can’t wait to get to chemistry class.

As they start spending more time together outside of school, Elliot realizes he’s never met anyone quite like Jordan. And then everything changes one night when Jordan kisses him, making Elliot question everything about their relationship and about himself. The butterflies start to make sense—the trouble is, right now, nothing else does.

Love was the last thing on Elliot’s mind. But as he begins to figure out how he really feels about Jordan, he realizes that sometimes the last thing you are looking for is the one thing you need the most.
MY REVIEW:

<table border="0" cellspacing="1" class="myActivity" style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: Lato, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; table-layout: fixed; width: 100%px;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">Keep Me Wanting follows a riveting romance between strangers that couldn’t be more different. He is an ex-con that would do anything to protect his brothers even if it meant doing more time in the slammer. She comes from a family of lawyers and detectives--big wigs if you will--and the last person she should be bringing to her family reunion is the cute ex-con she serves coffee to every morning. The two come together and many interesting, sexy, and heartbreaking things happen throughout the entire long weekend.

Most romance novels are just that, packed with sex scenes that will make your face turn red, and sweat bead on your forehead. The good romances though, are the ones that can accomplish a well put together story along side all the sex. Addams did a fantastic job of that here. Not only did I enjoy the steamy love scenes between our two main characters, I also fell in love with their personalities and the back story that brought them together as well.

Thinking about two people whose only words to each other are over the counter at a coffee shop a few times a week, we wonder how well they are going to hit it off during a long weekend, spent with each other but also one's entire family. Addams makes this look so easy, the characters come together so easily that it is almost like they have known eachother forever. They click beautifully making their story together desirable.

Books that can make the reader wonder where it is going can be bittersweet. In the beginning, this kind of novel leads readers to believe the inevitable is going to happen. The main characters spend a long weekend together, end up madly in love and bam they are happily ever after. But there is so much extra baggage on both characters, he’s an ex-con, and her father is the detective that put him away. Their story has MANY unforeseen twists and turns that make putting this book down for any amount of time impossible.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Publisher: Disney-Hyperion
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Synopsis: Winning a scholarship to California’s most prestigious art school seems like a fairy tale ending to Sabine Reye’s awful senior year. After losing both her mother and her home, Sabine longs for a place where she belongs.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">
But the cutthroat world of visual arts is nothing like what Sabine had imagined. Colin Krell, the renowned faculty member whom she had hoped would mentor her, seems to take merciless delight in tearing down her best work—and warns her that she’ll lose the merit-based award if she doesn’t improve.

Desperate and humiliated, Sabine doesn’t know where to turn. Then she meets Adam, a grad student who understands better than anyone the pressures of art school. He even helps Sabine get insight on Krell by showing her the modern master’s work in progress, a portrait that’s sold for a million dollars sight unseen.

Sabine is enthralled by the portrait; within those swirling, colorful layers of paint is the key to winning her inscrutable teacher’s approval. Krell did advise her to improve her craft by copying a painting she connects with . . . but what would he think of Sabine secretly painting her own version of his masterpiece? And what should she do when she accidentally becomes party to a crime so well -plotted that no one knows about it but her?

Complex and utterly original, What I Want You to See is a gripping tale of deception, attraction, and moral ambiguity.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Catherine Linka was almost thrown out of boarding school for being “too verbal.” Fortunately, she learned to channel her outspokenness and creative energy into writing. A passionate traveler she loves to visit wild landscapes like Iceland, the Amazon, Patagonia and the Arctic circle. Catherine has seen 6 types of whales in the wild, and lived her lifelong dream when she stood on deck in pajamas and a parka watching orca in Antarctica's Gerlach Straits. Her next trip: Tasmania. She doesn’t believe in fate, but she did fall in love with her husband on their first date when he laced up her boots, because she'd broken her hand.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">What I Want You To See by Catherine Linka is a book that teaches its readers a lesson. It isn’t just a cute story about a girl following her dreams, or trying to anyways. It’s about a girl trying to pick herself up from rock bottom and hitting a lot of walls along the way. It’s important for writers to write through sticky situations, and tough subjects rather than writing around them ultimately sugar coating anything too hard. Sabine Reyes is a tough young woman trying to make her dreams come true, but also dealing with her mistakes of the past since her mother's sudden death.

Writing and art are one in the same, the creators of both are artists in one way or another. Reyes is a painter at heart and it is her mission to be seen by her well known, hard to please art professor, Collin Krell. Her relationship with this particular professor is very bitter sweet. He is pushing her to her potential, but she sees his pushing as harsh and it often brings her down. Although Krells harsh behavior has a depressing effect on Sabine, it brings her close to two people she might not have ever confided in.

The most intriguing aspect of Sabines story is that her story teaches readers a lesson. It wasn’t one of those, something goes wrong and everything is fixed by the end of it, there was a real lesson to learn here. Linka takes her time and puts her main character through some tough situations, and lets her work through them on her own rather than bailing her out. Not only does this make her story more interesting but it gives Sabine so much more character, readers are able to watch her change throughout the book rather than staying the same and never learning anything.

Stories take on the ability to teach their readers something with each page. Not all writers can achieve this though. Some of them aren’t able to pull their readers into a story and teach them a lesson at the same time, but Linka does this perfectly. Once all the pages have been turned, each reader will have learned something significant, and that's real story telling.<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">

Synopsis: Bertie Bradshaw never
set out to become a spy. He never imagined traipsing around war-torn
London, solving ciphers, practicing surveillance, and searching for a
traitor to the Allied forces. He certainly never expected that a
strong-willed American girl named Eleanor would play Watson to his
Holmes (or Holmes to his Watson, depending on who you ask).

But
when a young woman goes missing, leaving behind a coded notebook, Bertie
is determined to solve the mystery. With the help of Eleanor and his
friend David, a Jewish refugee--and, of course, his trusty pup, Little
Roo--Bertie must decipher the notebook in time to stop a double agent
from spilling the biggest secret of all to the Nazis.

From the author of The Great Trouble, this suspenseful WWII adventure reminds us that times of war call for bravery, brains and teamwork from even the most unlikely heroes.
On his first day on the job, he meets two mysterious ladies: one who drops a very important notebook before running off and the other who is seemingly dead on the side of the road before disappearing completely before Bertie can make his way back to her with help.

Upon looking through the dropped notebook, Bertie discovers some cryptic notes that he is not sure of. He can tell one thing for sure, and that is that the notebook is important, but what any of it means, he is not sure of just yet. After reading the entirety of the journal, he realizes that the writer must be a spy and he sets out to find who the owner might be.

Along the way, he bumps back into the girl who dropped the journal in the first place, and she is angry at first but eventually comes to trust Bertie and the two work hard together to figure out what the notebook means and how they can find the girl it belongs too. Not only do the two find themselves revealing what it is like to be a spy and everything that goes into it but they are also figuring out things about their city and the war that they never understood before.

This is a middle grade categorized story which means it is all strictly friendship based. Eleanor--who is Bertie’s American friend--becomes closer with his bet dog Little Roo than she is with him. Little Roo provides a lot of comfort for the characters in this book between rescuing people in danger during air raids, being a companion to Bertie and just being friendly to everyone else. This little dog had to be my favorite addition to the story.

Hopkinson did a great job giving us characters that not only were coming together to solve a mystery but who were also dealing with their own issues and overcoming those on the side as well. To have a good character they need to have many different characteristics as my old writing teacher would say rather than one or the other. The inclusion of more than one attribute gives us a character who is flawed and working to fix themselves in front of us which gives them the opportunity to connect with us as readers.

infamous family tragedy, sixteen-year-old Kennedy Jones has made it her
mission to keep her brother's search through the cosmos alive. But then
something disturbs the frequency on his radio telescope--a pattern
registering where no signal should transmit.

In a neighboring
county, seventeen-year-old Nolan Chandler is determined to find out what
really happened to his brother, who disappeared the day after Nolan had
an eerie premonition. There hasn't been a single lead for two years,
until Nolan picks up an odd signal--a pattern coming from his brother's
bedroom.

Drawn together by these strange signals--and their
family tragedies--Kennedy and Nolan search for the origin of the
mysterious frequency. But the more they uncover, the more they believe
that everything's connected--even their pasts--as it appears the signal
is meant for them alone, sharing a message that only they can
understand. Is something coming for them? Or is the frequency warning
them about something that's already here?
We’re unsure of what happened to Kennedy and her family and why she no longer lives in her family home but instead with who we assume is her uncle Joe in a tiny apartment. But Nolan on the other hand reveals his background early in which we find out his older brother Liam had gone missing two years back and they had yet to find him alive or any evidence of his death.

He does his best to steer clear of this organization and stays true to finding his brother no matter what it takes. Kennedy on the other hand is determined to not let Joe sell her family home either because its her home or because it is her last tie to her brothers work and what really happened in that house 6 months ago.

Together they begin their quest to not only decode a message that will lead them to figure out not only what truly happened in Kennedy’s house but also what happened to Nolan’s brother.

Come Find Me, had the perfect amount of character bonding that didn’t get in the way of the rest of the story line. As a reader I was able to really sink myself into the story and not have to worry about any relationship issues which made for a great mystery/thriller.

Almost all of her novels include some kind of character flashback to give the reader background on the current character and or situation. This kind of writing can be hard because it is super easy to get confused between the past and the present, but Miranda has managed to successfully give her readers background knowledge without leaving us confused.

wonder: did she ever really know Emmy at all? With no friends, family,
or a digital footprint, the police begin to suspect that there is no
Emmy Grey. Soon Leah’s credibility is at stake, and she is forced to
revisit her past: the article that ruined her career. To save herself,
Leah must uncover the truth about Emmy Grey—and along the way, confront

In true Miranda fashion, we get flashbacks every now and again that gives us a little background on the characters, but we are kept in the dark enough to get to know the characters in an exciting way as we read through the novel.

The premise of this reminds me a lot of Stephen King’s newest novel, The Outsider in which a well known/liked school coach is convicted of murder. It’s a little different here because coach Cobb is only being charged with assault for a part of the book, but just the reminisce of an author I loved made me happy.

This is the type of mystery that had me yelling at the book at some points, and that is how you know you are reading something good. Miranda took her time to flesh out each character and bring them together in such ways that were surprising as well as satisfying. The relationship between main character Leah and the lead detective on the case Kyle is forbidden, but that doesn’t stop the two from getting to know each other.

Leah not only is having a hard time figuring out what is going on with her missing roommate but she is afraid to even be in her house in fear that someone is watching her closely and is trying to hurt her somehow. As readers we get to see her grapple with everything that is going on in her life--juggling her students at her new job, assault issues, her missing roommate, a new romance and her past following her around is a lot to handle for this young women.

The book is pretty small, so I was apprehensive about Miranda’s ability to wrap up the plethora of loose ends. But just like any other good mystery, she did a great job giving us so many different puzzles to pay attention to, and she was able to wrap each one of them up nicely without leaving her readers unsatisfied.

My favorite part of this novel was the inclusion of a small relationship between Kyle and Leah. Although romance is to be expected the two who were involved in this romance had a lot going on in both of their lives which is why it was peaceful to read those moments between them almost as a quick and much-needed break to all the fear and mystery going on in their town.

Survive The Night by Danielle Vega
Publisher: Razorbill
Publish Date: July 7, 2015
Book Format: Paperback
# of Pages: 288
Synopsis: Stephen King meets Pretty Little Liars in this pulse-pounding novel from the author of The Merciless

Just
back from rehab, Casey regrets letting her friends Shana, Julie, and
Aya talk her into coming to Survive the Night, an all-night, underground
rave in a New York City subway tunnel. Surrounded by frightening drugs
and menacing strangers, Casey doesn’t think Survive the Night could get
any worse...

...until she comes across Julie’s mutilated body
in a dank, black subway tunnel, red-eyed rats nibbling at her fingers.
Casey thought she was just off with some guy—no one could hear her
getting torn apart over the sound of pulsing music. And by the time they
get back to the party, everyone is gone.

Desperate
for help, Casey and her friends find themselves running through the
putrid subway tunnels, searching for a way out. But every manhole is
sealed shut, and every noise echoes eerily in the dark, reminding them
they’re not alone.

They’re being hunted.

Trapped underground with someone—or something—out to get them, Casey can’t help but listen to Aya’s terrified refrain: “We’re all gonna die down here.”
I have heard many good things about Danielle Vega and her recent publications. She has been well known for her horror infused stories including Survive The Night which is a standalone compared to her popular Merciless series which is up to four books currently.

Survive The Night tells the story of a high school aged girl named Casey who is fresh out of rehab from a pill addiction. Her parents are wanting to keep a close eye on her which means they only allow her to spend time with her “safe friends” even though she doesn’t feel like she fits in with them any longer. Shana rescues her from this uncomfortable situation and off she goes with the crew that got her in trouble in the first place.

Shana reveals herself as a bad ass with her old buick and maniacal driving. She is interested in hearing all about Casey’s rehab stint even if it bothers her to speak of her time there. In the back seat are Shana’s tagalongs, Aya and Julie whom are busy sharing a joint and painting each others toenails for a good portion of the beginning chapters. Casey is excited to see these three girls at first as it has always given her a rush hanging out with them, that feeling is back and full force especially when Shana begins their adventure by bringing them to a club featuring a band extremely familiar to Casey.

Before even stepping into the club Casey recognizes the music and instantly wants to leave. Before rehab the love of her life broke her heart and this just “happens” to be his band playing. Everything turns out well though once he notices her watching him play. It might be a little mix of relief that she’s home and pain because they are no longer together. Now a group of six, they head off in search of a popular underground rave that nobody can stop talking about, even if the rumors of murder down there are pretty creepy.

Sam--the ex boyfriend--and Casey find themselves awful close and forced to talk about the events leading up to their break up and rehab stint. This brings on a lot of emotion and tears but ends with kissing and groping. The couple seem to have made up for now anyways. Not long after this magical moment does the terror start. A body is found ripped open with intestines spilling out and soon after the--now five--of them realized they are trapped underground with no way out. The candles are starting to dim, their phones are dying and they have no idea who--or what--is down there with them.

As you can imagine only some of them make it out of the underground subway alive and the trek to find an exit is a dark and wet one for this group of teenagers. They encounter homeless men, starving rats, and a tentacled monster that nobody really understands. Who comes out alive is the big question: all, none or some?

Electric, headstrong young women; Ellory’s whole solar system.

NOW Ellory
is alone, her once inseparable group of friends torn apart by secrets,
deception, and a shocking incident that changed their lives forever.

THEN Lazy summer days. A party. A beautiful boy. Ellory met Matthias and fell into the beginning of a spectacular, bright love.

NOW
Ellory returns to Pine Brook to navigate senior year after a two-month
suspension and summer away—no boyfriend, no friends. No going back.
Tormented by some and sought out by others, troubled by a mysterious
note-writer who won’t let Ellory forget, and consumed by guilt over her
not entirely innocent role in everything and everyone she’s lost, Ellory
finds that even in the present, the past is everywhere.

The path
forward isn’t a straight line. And moving on will mean sorting the
truth from the lies—the lies Ellory has been telling herself.
The four of them are held together by one person acting as glue, but do they see that? Do they see that all it would take is one falling out to send them off in separate directions forever? Not until it's too late…

Young group of friends who think they are inseparable until some major falling out happens that drives them all apart. The difference here is that Frick doesn’t just tell the story in chronological order, like every other novel, she goes back and forth between what she calls THEN and NOW.

The THEN details what the group of friends were like in the beginning; how they came together, how they functioned, what made them tick and really just their entire friendship as a whole while the NOW made up the aftermath of the falling out. The group was made up of four girls, main character Ellory, head of the pose Ret followed up by Bex and Jenni. Each of these girls were very different from the next. Ellory is quiet and very much keeps to herself. When she isn’t with her friends she spends most of her time working on her artwork in the schools art dungeon. Ret is the glue, she met and befriended each of the girls pulling them into the circle. She makes their friendship run smoothly. Everything they do is with her approval or with her in mind, she is the leader. Bex and Jenni are always in the background either jealous of the relationship between Ellory and Ret or just rolling with it in hopes for a good time.

Things start to go south when Ellory meets a boy. She is supposed to be sticking by Ret’s side but she wanders off bumping into the infamous Matthias, who she has admired since Freshman year. The two hit if off and the two are the next IT couple. Ret doesn’t like this, she calls the shots and she definitely isn’t okay with “her” Ellory being occupied by someone else, especially a boyfriend. Soon enough Ret turned into a passive aggressive version of herself making it painfully clear that she missed her friend and wanted her back. Frick did a great job in focusing the reader on the relationship between Ellory and Matthias than what Ret was doing in the background.

In the NOW, readers witness Ellory struggling with what was referred to as “the fall,” and how to give each one of her old friends and boyfriend forgiveness in order to move on. On the flip side, Frick is making it hard to stop turning the pages in order to discover what was terrible enough to rip a group of friends completely apart and send Ellory spiraling into a dark pit of guilt and depression.

Frick allows us to get close to each of her characters. She shares with us, what makes them tick, their secrets, and what makes them happy. Being that the novel starts out with a big happy group of friends and ends with one lone sad girl makes it hard to not feel for her and yank on our heart strings. See All The Stars is sure worth the read, with every flip of a page the story gets more and more intense leaving you with nothing but the desire to know what “the fall,” really was and why it happened.
buff Ray knows everything about the peculiar legends and lore of his
rural Connecticut hometown. Burgerville's past is riddled with green cow
sightings and human groundhogs, but the most interesting thing about
the present is the new girl--we'll call her Jane Doe.

Inscrutable,
cool, and above all mysterious, Jane seems as determined to hide her
past as Ray is to uncover it. As fascination turns to friendship and
then to something more, Ray is certain he knows Jane's darkest, most
painful secrets and Jane herself--from past to present. But when the
unthinkable happens, Ray is forced to acknowledge that perhaps history
can only tell us so much.

Mixing humor with heartache, this is an unmissable coming-of-age story from an exciting new voice in YA.
His world changes for the better when he meets a girl who he refers to as Jane. She doesn’t seem like the type of person who would like a small town like Williamsburg but Ray makes her move here as fun as he possibly can.

But at the same time, these themes need to be introduced to the younger crowd eventually and in a delicate way so maybe this is the perfect platform for some younger to start hearing about some of the themes in this book.

All of these situations can be hard to go through and everyone handles them differently so I feel like featuring these themes in this book for a younger audience to see is almost necessary so they can begin to understand what these different things mean and how to handle them in different ways. The biggest message I get from The History of Jane Doe is to cherish all relationships, never take any for granted and it is okay to express yourself and to let out your emotions. Those are important messages for not just a younger audience but those in an older age group as well.

I loved the characters in this book so much they were all so close and as a reader, I could feel the bond that the three main characters especially had. A lot of young adult and even middle-grade books portray their main characters as a female especially in other books that deal with themes such as the ones this one does. Belanger does something so different as to chose Ray as a male main character. It’s so refreshing because there are not that many books out there that accomplish what this one does.

I oftentimes found myself laughing out loud especially when it came to milk jokes. But there were also times when I felt my heartstrings being pulled during the many heartfelt moments between Ray and Jane. So, overall, I loved it and this book is definitely one to check out!

The Interns Handbook by Shane Kuhn
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
Release Date: April 8, 2014
# of Pages: 276
Book Format: ARC
Synopsis: Interns are invisible.
That’s the mantra behind HR, Inc., an elite "placement agency" that
doubles as a network of assassins-for-hire, taking down high-profile
executives who wouldn't be able to remember an intern’s name if their
lives depended on it.

At the ripe old age of twenty-five, John
Lago is already New York City’s most successful hit man. He’s also an
intern at a prestigious Manhattan law firm, clocking eighty hours a week
getting coffee, answering phones, and doing all the grunt work no one
else wants to do. But he isn't trying to claw his way to the top of the
corporate food chain. He was hired to assassinate one of the firm’s
heavily guarded partners. His internship is the perfect cover, enabling
him to gather intel and gain access in order to pull off a clean,
untraceable hit.

The Intern’s Handbook is John Lago's unofficial
survival guide for new recruits at HR, Inc. (Rule #4: "Learn how to make
the perfect cup of coffee: you make an exec the best coffee he’s ever
had, and he will make sure you’re at his desk every morning for a repeat
performance. That’s repetitive exposure, which begets access and trust.
44% of my kills came from my superior coffee-making abilities.")

Part
confessional, part how-to, the handbook chronicles John’s final
assignment, a twisted thrill ride in which he is pitted against the
toughest—and sexiest—adversary he’s ever faced: Alice, an FBI agent
assigned to take down the same law partner he’s been assigned to kill.
My Review:
I received this book from the publisher and this is my honest review.

The
Intern’s Handbook by Shane Kuhn follows a young man who has never known
anything but death. It’d be one thing if this death was coincidental,
but John Lago, our main character, is an assassin which means he is
behind all of the death he deals with. Lago lost both of his parents or
so he thought at birth and at a young age was recruited by Bob, who
trains him to be the fully equipped assassin he is today.

This
novel is set up as a guide book for all of the new “interns” that are
beginning their careers as assassins just as John did 25 years prior. To
give you some background, the company Lago works for is called Human
Resources, INC all of the employees aka assassins are disguised as
interns whenever the person they are hired to kill works. This novel is
set in an office building where John pretends to be an intern while he’s
working on getting close to his target. Things go crazy from there.

Characters
need to make you feel for them and love them while reading to make for a
good book. I felt something whether it be hate, pity or love for each
and every character which is a good sign. The main character comes off
as a hard and a no feeling type of guy, but buy the end we see him
break, we see emotions which makes him extremely indelible as a
character. My heart breaks for him quite a few times and that's how you
know you’re reading a good book.

Kuhn does a fantastic job
describing all of the action scenes. I get nervous reading action scenes
in book for fear of being bored but everything within this novel is so
bloody and gorey I couldn’t tear my eyes away during those scenes I was
so into it the entire time. Everything was so pictureable as If I was
watching a movie in my head while reading.

Not only is this book
filled with death and gunfire but there is also a lot of laughs and
even a hint of love mixed in the pot to make one hell of a read. I
cannot wait to dive into book two to see what is in store there because
this book was wrapped up nicely enough to be a standalone so I’m really
interested to see what's next. If you read this book then you know what I
mean when I say I hope there is more of Marcus and Alice.
Matt Wainwright is in turmoil. He can’t tell his lifelong best friend,
Tabby, how he really feels about her; his promising basketball skills
are being overshadowed by his attitude on the court, and the only place
he feels normal is in English class, where he can express his inner
thoughts in quirky poems and essays. Matt is desperately hoping that
Tabby will reciprocate his feelings; but then Tabby starts dating Liam
Branson, senior basketball star and all-around great guy. Losing Tabby
to Branson is bad enough; but, as Matt soon discovers, he’s close to
losing everything that matters most to him.

Humorous and heart-wrenching, A Short History of the Girl Next Door is perfect for readers who fell in love with All the Bright Places' Finch or Stargirl’s Leo.
Matt & Tabby grew up together, and had been inseparable since the day Tabby’s mother left. Her dad needed the help taking care of a newborn baby and the Wainwrights enjoyed having little Tabby around all the time. Everything changes when Matt realizes that he’s in love with his best friend.

Neighbors grew up together, the boy falls in love with the girl, they have some falling out but then they make up and fall in love. BUT that is not what this book was like at all. Without any spoilers it had most of the typical love story aspects but in the middle nearing the end the book took a turn that I didn’t see coming.

Even though it was typical I just loved them so much. I loved how close Tabby was with Matt’s family especially his little brother and grandparents. I also loved that even though she was becoming a little more popular by dating the popular senior at school she still loved Matt as a friend and didn’t treat him any differently.

All of the teachers were so involved in the lives of all of their students especially Matt and Tabby and they stood by them when tragedy struck. I love how everybody in this book was so good to one another everybody was so supportive and it just felt like such a great community to be in.

wait to show her best friends the app she built at CodeGirls summer
camp. CLICK'D pairs users based on common interests and sends them on a
fun (and occasionally rule-breaking) scavenger hunt to find each other.
And it's a hit. By the second day of school, everyone is talking about
CLICK'D.

Watching her app go viral is amazing. Leaderboards are
filling up! Everyone's making new friends. And with all the data Allie
is collecting, she has an even better shot at beating her archenemy,
Nathan, at the upcoming youth coding competition. But when Allie
discovers a glitch that threatens to expose everyone's secrets, she has
to figure out how to make things right, even if that means sharing the
computer lab with Nathan. Can Allie fix her app, stop it from doing any
more damage, and win back the friends it hurt-all before she steps on
stage to present CLICK'D to the judges?

New York Times

Because of her brilliant app her teacher nominates her to compete in a competition for young coders who also created games or apps. In the book Allie beta tests her app using her middle school as testers to help her chances in the competition.

I’m not sure how I feel about Stones middle grade title, the writing is so different which is to be expected but I felt as if the writing was more simplified than it really needed to be, but it could just be because I am 21 reading a book for younger kids. Another aspect I had trouble with was the ages of some of these characters. The writing was really young but I don’t think the characters fit with the writing. There were some scenes in which the characters seemed to act their ages but there were also times where Allie for example seemed a lot older than 12 she was always seemingly out on her own, and her friends were way to boy crazy and mature than 12 year olds seem in my experience.

While reading this I had the urge to play games on my phone like the girls who were having so much fun and wanted to make things just like Allie was doing. This book could do wonders for kids giving them the courage they need to be creative and create just like Allie and Nathan are doing in this book.

Allie was such a sweet girl and tried to be good to her friends and others despite the issues she was dealing with trying to launch her new game. Not only is this great for inspiring kids but it also great to teach kids how easy it is to make friends and that they never have to be alone. Stone did a great job keeping it interesting and inspiring for all ages I definitely will check out anything of hers in the future.

Night takes place in a mystical land in which magic is real and those who are born with it must attend Halls of Ivy to learn and master their individual skills. The main character goes by the name of Ivy of course and she is introduced to readers while working as a scaldrony maid in a huge castle completely unaware of any powers she may have.

There were so many points within this book that I found myself confused because of the lack of transitions. I feel as though normally transitions are marked by the start of a new chapter but this book had so many different scenes in each chapter that ran into each other. Ivy’s thoughts and actions were all so crazy and hectic that it was sometimes hard to follow. Thinking back to the book now I still am not so sure I really understood all of the crazy things that happened in the book. I was also hoping that the narration style would be more storyteller style I almost felt as if the narrator wasn’t invested and excited about the story which turned me off to it at some points.

My favorite scene in the book took place while Ivy was tucked away in a library room and a book kept flying off the shelf. The book ended up revealing a whole secret place to Ivy and it was so fun to see her find the place, describe it as she went and also meet someone new.

I did enjoy the story and would definitely read other books written by Night. It’s hard for me not to fall in love with stories about young girls discovering what there life was meant to hold. Even though I found it hard to follow at some points but there were also more times when I was smiling and excited to watch all the magic unfold.

The book starts with the younger of the two daughters turning up at her mother's house hungry, cold, and alone. Immediately everyone involved the case three years prior jump into action and its like the investigation never went cold.

Her characters were by far the most interesting and entertaining than I had read in awhile. Both girls had drastically different personalities so it was very easy to tell them apart which sisters can sometimes be. The parents were also crazy neither of them were anywhere near stable and it made the story that much more chaotic but in a good way.

A lot of mystery books are so easy to figure out and to know what is going to happen before you turn the page all the time gets boring sometimes. This novel, took a few twists in the middle and near the end that I would never had expected and I loved it. I never saw the end coming and that made me want to read everything possible by this author.

The beach, and the house that the girls were held captive at, the girls’ mothers house. All of these different places were uniquely described and this made it really easy to picture every scene.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Release Date: August 8, 2017
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Genre: Young Adult, Historical
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Synopsis: Those who don’t know history are destined to repeat it. . . .

When seventeen year-old Jasper is approached at the funeral
of his deadbeat father by a man claiming to be an associate
of his deceased parents, he’s thrust into a world of secrets tied to
America’s history—and he’s right at the heart of it.

First, Jasper finds out he is the sole surviving descendant of Benedict Arnold, the most notorious traitor in American history. Then he learns that his father’s death was no accident. Jasper
is at the center of a war that has been going on for centuries, in which the descendants of the heroes and traitors of the American Revolution still duel to the death for the sake of their honor.

His only hope to escape his dangerous fate on his eighteenth birthday? Take up the research his father was pursuing at the time
of his death, to clear Arnold’s name.

Whisked off to a boarding school populated by other descendants of notorious American traitors, it’s a race to discover the truth. But if Jasper doesn’t find a way to uncover the evidence his father was hunting for, he may end up paying for the sins of his forefathers with his own life.

Like a mash-up of National Treasure and Hamilton, Matthew Landis’s debut spins the what-ifs of American history into a heart-pounding thriller steeped in conspiracy, clue hunting, and danger.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I love history, but not in the old, awful, kill-me-now-please kind
of way. My passion is convincing my students that the past is actually hilarious, shocking, tragic, disturbing, and altogether
UN-boring. While getting my graduate degree in History at Villanova, I realized that there was yet one more way to do this: write contemporary young adult books laced with history to convince my students that past isn't as awful as they think. That’s a huge reason why I wrote The Judas Society.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Some other stuff: I love poetry but don’t understand it; I want Gordon Ramsay to give me a fatherly hug at some point; I tend toward the unapologetically dramatic; and (to my great shame) I didn’t read the Harry Potter series until last year. I’m also really good at covering up patent insecurities with self-deprecating humor (like this joke).
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">1.What is your favorite thing about being a writer?
I love creating worlds and then letting people into them;
it’s sort of like letting people get to know me, indirectly. When my friends read my books, they’re often like “Dude I could totally hear you say that” which is awesome, because it means I’m coming through authentically.

2.What advice can you give to aspiring writers?
Two things.
1) Don’t stop. Ever. You won’t finish that novel unless you actually finish it, so go do it.
2) Don’t let writing consume you, because it can’t make you happy. Affirmation from getting published is great, but like everything in life, it fades. Pursue your dream of writing a book and getting it into stores, but don’t base your feelings of value on it, because it will let you down.

3.What do you do when you have writers block?
Depends on the block. If it’s straight up “I have no idea where this scene is going or its purpose” I stop and consult my story map to figure out where the heck I am and what I should
be communicating. If the writer’s block is “I have zero good ideas” I stop writing altogether and watch movies and listen to all sorts of music to get the feels.

4.What is your least favorite thing about being a writer?
I hate how books (like many cool things) can easily become a
ll-consuming pursuits. I try really hard to set up concrete boundaries—teacher, husband, dad, neighbor, writer—but that’s harder when it comes to mental space. Books suck you in and you can get lost in them, forgetting that they are actually made up things that matter far less than you are making them currently. It’s not that they are unimportant; it’s that there are many things that are far more important. A convicting question for me is: Am I as invested in the lives and burdens
of my coworkers and neighbors as I am my made up story? That answer crushes me constantly, and I am always fighting against the siren call of my manuscript.

5.Do you have an email subscription or Facebook group that my followers and I can follow to keep up to date on you and your writing?
