Review: And Sometimes Why by Rebecca Johnson

And Sometimes Why by Rebecca Johnson
Publisher: Putman Adult
Publication Date: February 18, 2008
Book Format: Hardcover
Number of Pages: 320
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

And Sometimes Why has been on my bookshelf for quite sometime and this year I am participating in the TBR Pile Challenge so this will help me with that. This is also my honest review.

This is the story of two "families" going through a really tough time. We meet Sophia and her family who consists of her husband Darious and two daughters Miranda, and Helen. The other family is actor Harry Harlow and his wife Catherine. I do not want to spoil the book for anyways so I will say this, somehow these two familes cross eachothers path and theres a tragedy that we will watch them work through.

I very much enjoyed this book I enjoyed seeing all the characters evolve in their life, I liked watching them change some for the better some for the worse. We met Sophia who is a mother of two and a wife and we watch her kind of live her life questioning everything she does. We watch her husband Darious use his smarts to try and help one of his daughters. We also see both of there daughters, two completely different people go down two completely different and scary roads.

The second family is much different from the first. We meet Harry who is an actor and is in between jobs and this is causing problems in his marriage to his wife Catherine, who we do meet in the book but we don't really know much about her so I can't say much about her.

Something I enjoyed about the book but at the same time did not like is how many different point of views were in the book. Now don't get my wrong I love switching it up a little bit in the story because that is what keeps a book interesting but there were some point of views in the story that I did not understand nor did I think were necesary. For example on the set of Harry's show there was a camera man named Anton I'm not going to tell you what happens to him but there are random chapters in the story that are all his point of view which confused me because he really didn't have anything to do with the story.

Overall the book gets a 4 out of 5 stars because I enjoyed the characters and the authors writing. I'm hoping to be able to read more of her work in the future.

Phoebe Pope and the Year of Four Tour: Author Interview

Phoebe Pope and the Year of Four by Nya Jade
Synopsis: The students of Green Lane Academy roam their halls unaware that below their manicured campus exists a prestigious school of an entirely different kind . . .

Sixteen-year-old Phoebe Pope has enrolled at the Campus Below: a spy academy for shape-shifters hidden deep beneath the grounds of a boarding school whose humans unknowingly protect it. There, thanks to a carefully planned schedule, she leads a double life: spy trainee Below and normal teenager Above.

As if two course loads, concealing a secret power she alone wields, and coping with her father’s recent death weren’t enough, Phoebe finds herself developing major feelings for actor and teen heartthrob Colten Chase, who attends the Campus Above and appears to be majoring in winning Phoebe’s heart. But when officials learn that Phoebe may be at the center of a startling prophecy, she becomes the target of shape-shifting assassins who will stop at nothing to suppress the truth.

Now Phoebe’s lessons about Shaper’s enemies and spycraft take on great importance as a menace stalks the campus, with Phoebe as its target. Meanwhile, what began as an unlikely relationship with Colten, quickly morphs into heartache when she suspects that something sinister lurks beneath this movie star’s glitter and fame. Suddenly, Phoebe’s caught in a mesh of lies, betrayals, and danger where she doesn’t know who to trust, and needs to rely on herself—and her secret power—to get to the truth and to stay alive.

Interview:

P: What is your favorite part of being an author?
N: I really love the writing process. It's like putting together a complex puzzle. All of the right pieces have to come together to animate a story. It's magic when that happens!

P: Have you always wanted to be an author?
N: I think I've always wanted to tell stories. As a kid, I was always the storyteller in a group. So far I've been able to tell my stories through songwriting and novel writing. I feel very lucky.

P: Where is your favorite place to write?
N: I love writing while sitting on a sofa. It has to be a very deep sofa though - the kind where my feet can't touch the ground. Isurround myself with pillows and call it my writing nest.

P: Where did you get the inspiration for your book?
N: The inspiration for Phoebe Pope and the Year of Four came to me as a screenplay. I saw the idea of a secret paranormal school, within a regular school, as a movie and so I set out to write it. I didn't get too far because I couldn't figure out how to incorporate all of the paranormal elements into a screenplay. So, I switched gears and decided to write the book instead.

P: What can we expect from you in the future?
N: I'm excited to see what the future holds! I plan to continue Phoebe's adventure. I hope to write some new songs and would love to try my hand at writing a graphic novel.

N: Thank you so much for hosting me here today. I really appreciate it! xoxo Nya

I hope you all enjoyed the interview with Nya today! It was a lot of fun! Remember that this tour is being hosted by Xpresso Reads Tours so go check out that site to see the other memebers on the tour!

Early Review: If You Find Me by Emily Murdoch

If You Find Me by Emily Murdoch
Publisher: St. Martins Griffin
Publication Date: March 26, 2013
Book Format: e-ARC
Number of Pages: 256
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received If You Find Me by Emily Murdoch from Net Galley for my honest review.

If You Find Me is about two young girls Carey, and her little sister Janessa who live with their mother in a camper in the woods. But after awhile Joelle their mother abandons them which means the two girls are left to fend for themselves in the woods in the middle of the winter. Luckily though Carey’s dad and a social worker finally finds them and this is where we start off in the book.

When I started the book I was a little confused by what was going on in the beginning but as the book went on it got clearer. We start of seeing these two young girls bond and it was a great thing to see. Most sisters have some type of close bond but these two had the greatest bond I’ve ever seen between two sisters, and yes the reason why they have such a strong bond is unfortunate but it was still beautiful to see.

Carey is a really strong character and I said this many times while reading she is really a character that people should look up to. No matter what was happening she was always thinking about her younger sister first making sure she was okay and safe and I loved that about her. I absolutely loved Janessa’s character she was the sweetest little girl ever! She always made me smile while reading!

One of the only things that I didn’t really like were sometimes in the book Carey would go off into her own little world. Sometimes it’s fun to be inside someone else’s head to see what there thinking but it just seemed like we were in her head way too much sometimes all the thoughts weren’t needed but this did not take away too much for me I still loved the book.

This happens to be this authors debut young adult book and I have to say that I definitely do want to read everything she writes because I fell in love with this book! I kind of wish there was a second book so I could see how the two sisters get along with their new parents and Delaney. In the end it gets a 5 out of 5 stars I definitely recommend this book to anyone it was fantastic!
