My Mini Review:
I bought this short story off of Amazon, and this is my honest review.

I enjoyed this story quite a bit, I was not expecting what happend at all. But once it happened I couldn’t stop turning pages and I was sad when it was over. This story was about a young guy named Cory, who turned out to be I guess a vampire. Which I thought was so random but it was cool. He opened up an old cursed theater and hired an “innocent” teenage girl to man the front. Boy did it go downhill from there.

There were parts in this little story that happened so fast that I was confused which annoyed me a little but it got better quickly. I enjoyed meeting the characters, even though I wished I had more time to get to know them but I feel like thats the point of a short story for you to be introduced to the characters and what to know more.

I enjoyed the mix of Vampires, and ghosts. Normally those two things are usually on their own but putting them both together in a story made it very enjoyable. This small story gets a 4 out of 5 stars.

I hope you all enjoyed this weeks edition of Mini Review Sunday! :)

Taste The Heat Blog Tour: Guest Post + Giveaway

Taste The Heat by Rachel Harris
Release Date: July 8, 2013
Synopsis: One sexy fire captain. One Cajun chef. One combustible kitchen…

When chef Colby Robicheaux returned home to New Orleans to save her family restaurant, the last person she expected to reconnect with was her brother’s best friend and her childhood crush. As tempting as a sugar-coated beignet, Jason is one dish she can’t afford to taste. Colby can’t wait to leave the place where her distrust of love and commitment originated and go back to Vegas.

Fire captain Jason Landry isn’t looking for love, either. Disillusioned by his past, he knows he should be focusing on finding the perfect mother for his daughter. But when he first sees Colby, all grown up and gorgeous, he can’t help but be drawn to her. And when she suggests a no-strings-attached fling, Jason can’t say no.

As their relationship grows more intense, Colby finds that Jason isn’t as easy to leave behind as she thought. Could turning up the heat on something real be worth the possibility of getting burned?

Meet The Author:
Rachel Harris grew up in New Orleans, where she watched soap operas with her grandmother and stayed up late sneak reading her mama’s favorite romance novels. Now a Cajun cowgirl living in Houston, she still stays up way too late reading her favorite romances, only now, she can do so openly. She firmly believes life’s problems can be solved with a hot, powdered-sugar-coated beignet or a thick slice of king cake, and that screaming at strangers for cheap, plastic beads is acceptable behavior in certain situations.

When not typing furiously or flipping pages in an enthralling romance, she homeschools her two beautiful girls and watches reality television with her amazing husband. Taste The Heat is her adult romance debut. Guest Post:
Jason Landry. Seriously, Jason Landry knocked my socks off while writing Taste the Heat. He was the perfect balance of strong male and sensitive hero. He had wounds from the past, but loved his daughter fiercely. And when it came to Colby Robicheaux, the man pursued her in ways that left me in a puddle of swoon. Having created him, I’m probably a little too close to Jason to tell you why he’s so amazing, so I invited Colby to introduce you to the man who brings the heat inside the kitchen, and out.

Top Five Things Colby Wants YOU to Know About Jason

1.
A Man in Uniform. Need she go on? I don’t know what it is about a man in uniform...okay, maybe I do. Whether it’s military, police, or in Jason’s case, fire department, a man in uniform is sexy because you know he can take care of you. He’s not afraid to put his life on the line to defend others, and when it comes to the people he loves, you better watch out. Jason is the captain of the Magnolia Springs fire department, and he wears the uniform well.

2.
The Man Can Cook. Maybe not as well as Colby—she’s trained and owns a restaurant, after all—but besides a man in uniform, is there anything sexier than a man who knows his way around a kitchen?

3.
He’s An Amazing Dad. Colby wasn’t looking for a ready-made family. Heck, she wasn’t looking for a family. She gave up on love and relationships a long time ago. But seeing a strong man so open and vulnerable, caring for his preteen daughter, and at times being adorably overwhelmed in the process? How could that not melt her heart just a little?

4.
He Can and Will Fight For You. Jason is a trained instructor in tactical ninjitsu. Every week, he teaches men and women how to defend themselves and those they love by any means necessary. So, okay, besides a man in uniform, a man who can cook, and a man who is good with kids, a man who will fight for your honor is definitely one of the sexiest qualities ever. (By the way, anyone else singing the theme song from Karate Kid II—“I am the man who will fight for your honor…” No? Never mind)

5.
A Chance at Your First Love. Maybe this won’t matter so much to readers as it did to Colby, but Jason was her first love. She was the kid sister who wore her heart on her sleeve and followed in his footsteps. What single woman wouldn’t kill for the chance to be with the man who starred in their every childhood fantasy? Who filled the pages of their diary? And what woman doesn’t get a warm fuzzy reading about just that? Insert happy reader sigh here.

So there you have it, Colby’s top five things she believe you need to know about our man Jason, the qualities that make him irresistible.
What about YOU, fabulous readers? What qualities in a guy turn you into a happy puddle of goo??

Excerpt:
There’s a flash of light, blindingly bright. Colored haloes obscure my vision. They dance and flicker and then disappear, leaving only a rectangle of light boxed in by the dark doorframe.

I see then that the door’s gone and in front of me are people. No…they aren’t people. They have limbs, hair, faces, but they aren’t human. After the first glance, they don’t look even remotely human. They’re pure, painful white, so bright they throw off a glare. They look like they’ve been dipped in glass, smooth and polished, but fluid. And their eyes…they’re a silvery color, like the mercury in the antique thermometer that my mom used to have at the side of the front porch.

When I was ten, I knocked that thermometer off with my wooden kendo sword, shattering the glass. The little blobs of mercury went all over the porch. I was a kid. I didn’t know better. I touched them, prodding the little balls until they joined the bigger blob. My mom swooped down on me and snatched me away, telling me it was poison. It could kill me.

I stare at the things in front of me: the Drau. I can’t look away.

Somewhere in the back of my mind, I remember Jackson talking about Medusa.
Don’t look at their eyes.

Their mercury eyes.

They’re poison.

They will kill me.

My Review:
I received The Children and the Blood by Megan Joel Peterson for a book tour and this is my honest review.

Reading the synopsis of this book I was not sure if it was going to be in my interests but as soon as I started reading the book quickly grasped me and I could not put it down. In the beginning we meet Ashley who is living with her little family on a secluded farm and all is well until one night turns her whole life upside down. In a separate chapter we meet Cole and we are not yet sure why he is brought into the lives of Ashley and her sister Lily but he happens to be very important for one of them.

Usually the kind of books that have a few or two different perspectives in the book I enjoy because either their lives are already together or their lives are going to be brought together pretty soon but that was not the case really with this one. The two main characters Ashley, and Cole have their separate chapters and in some ways their lives are sort of connected but there is never a point in the story where they actually cross paths and considering the circumstances this really annoys me. But there is a second book so hopefully it will happen then.

I have to say that to me Cole was very brave and courageous. When he found out where those bad guys were going instead of getting away and going somewhere where nobody could find him which he very well could have done, he went after them in hopes to save the people they were about to terrorize. On an entirely different note i’m going to this character because she is connected to Cole in certain ways. Lily we saw her abilities a few times throughout the book and I wish we could have seen more of her and what she could do all together.

The book was more or less based on Ashley and where she escaped to which sort of irked me because when you split up a book between characters most of the time they get equal parts but that was not the case here. Ashley got most of the book and Cole got little side parts most of the time, this is another thing I am hoping will change by book two.

To be completely honest though I enjoyed the powers that some of the characters had. Like Ashleys ability to completely combust into flames without burning herself to protect herself and whoever else she wanted to that was very cool. But again this is where I had issues because I got to know a lot about Ashley’s powers but very little of Lily’s all we saw her do was heal herself and Cole pretty quickly but it was not really dwelled on.

Overall The Children and the Blood gets a 4 out of 5 because it did have the ability to hold my interest even if I wished a few things were different. I cannot wait to see how every fans out in book two!

Release Day Review: Breaking Glass by Lisa Amowitz

Breaking Glass by Lisa Amowitz
Release Date: July 9, 2013
Publisher: Spencer Hill Press
Book Format: ARC
Number of Pages: 297
Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars
Synopsis: On the night seventeen-year-old Jeremy Glass winds up in the hospital with a broken leg and a blood alcohol level well above the legal limit, his secret crush, Susannah, disappears. When he begins receiving messages from her from beyond the grave, he's not sure whether they're real or if he's losing his grip on reality. Clue by clue, he gets closer to unraveling the mystery, and soon realizes he must discover the truth or become the next victim himself.

My Review:
I received Breaking Glass by Lisa Amowitz from Spencer Hill Press, for review and this is my honest review.

Holy moly, Breaking Glass was a crazy roller coaster ride and I loved every second of it! Jeremey Glass seems like an average guy but throughout the story we find out that he is definitely not. We watch him struggle with the death of his mother, and the lose of his leg as well as the lose of “the love of his life” the struggle was life threatening but well worth reading.

This story was totally my kind of book, I loved following Jeremy as he was trying to put together the clues to solving Susannah’s death. This was one of the reasons I could not put the book down, because there was never a dull moment. Every chapter had some sort of clue as to what happened, or some kind of action it was great.

During the book I found myself going back and forth between what I thought happened to Susannah, and who had caused her to disappear. For a good part of the book I completely blamed Ryan. I had absolutely no liking for him whatsoever and I was convinced that I never would. Thats another thing I liked about the book though Amowitz did such a good job shaping the characters to where you couldn’t see right through them because all the sudden the character would change and you’d be left completely dumbfounded. That may annoy some people but I kind of enjoyed it.

I was not sure what I thought about Jeremy's dad, I liked him but there were many times in the book where I feel like he could have been a lot more understanding. Jeremy needed him so much even though he tried not to show it and his dad just was not there most of the time. Patrick Morgan on the other hand, hated him! I am not going to tell you his fate but let me just tell you it was amazing! One other character I loved was Marisa, when we first met her I figured she was going to be a one time only character but she reappeared often and I enjoyed what her part in the story came to be I was kind of hoping for that to happen too!

I loved how easily Amowitz made the story flow. Normally with a story that has flashbacks and has so many different conflicts it would be very hard to follow. But the story flowed smoothly and that is what in my eyes made this a 5 star book.

I hope you all enjoyed this review, tell me what you think in the comments!
