Destiny Clark, a young Mormon girl living in Tennessee, is wildly infatuated with Isaac Robinson, the headmaster's son at her Baptist high school. As their rehearsals begin, Destiny realizes the unimaginable: Isaac has developed deep feelings for her despite their religious differences and the fact that he has a girlfriend.
But will they be able to find their place amongst the backbiters of their ultra-conservative world?

The Pros and Cons of Being a Writer
Pro #1:
You get to exercise your creativity. It's so amazing to lose myself in another world. I love to imagine the golden sun sparkling on the bright orange and yellow leaves in autumn or the sound of a babbling brook soothing your broken heart. Writing is like reading on steroids. When you read something you feel like you're there if the author did a good job. When you actually are the author the magic is taken to a whole new level. Now, instead of being bound by the author's words, your possibilities are limitless. The freedom is exhilarating. The sky's the limit.
Con #1:
Writer's block. Okay, I know some people say this doesn't actually exist, that it's just life getting in the way, but it's still a problem. It's a big nasty black fog that takes over your mind and it's embedded with Facebook notifications, emails, phone calls, text messages, and the biggest worst evil of all...YouTube. *shudder*
Pro #2:
That blissful moment that comes right after you hit the worst patch of writer's block. You've written through it and even though you know you may have to rewrite the rambling garbage you just wrote while you were trying to dispel the block, it's gone and you can get back into the writing zone where the words flow freely.
Con #2:
When you're writing along and then BAM! You hit a wall. Whether it's leave a huge plot hole, is ridiculous, or conflicts with another part of the story, what you had planned just simply isn't going to work. Maybe you realize it on your own or maybe a friend points it out. Either way, it's one of the toughest parts of being a writer. When this happens to me, I'm tempted to ball up the entire thing (figuratively) and toss it out the window. I feel like a huge failure as a writer and the self-doubt starts to set in.
Pro #3:
When inspirations hits. This is my absolute favorite part of being a writer. I've never been on such a high. Inspiration never shows up when you want it to. Does it come when you're looking the hardest, researching, staying up late into the night fretting over it? Nope. It arrives when you decide to forget about it for a while. Maybe after you've just finished reading a good book or movie, and you've decided to finally tackle that pile of laundry in the corner. If you at my house, it's the three piles of laundry--one for each bedroom. That's when it hits you like a beam of light from heaven. I can't count all the times I've had a major breakthrough doing laundry or dishes. Usually when that happens, all the despair from the days before vanishes, and for a while, everything is perfect again and you remember why you decided to take on such a crazy venture.
I'm pretty sure I could find a Con #3, but after Pro #3, who wants hear another con?

“This is Joe Castlellaw,” Mr. Norway said. He pulled a kid from the open office door behind him like a reluctant rabbit out of a magician’s hat.
“Joe,” Mr. Norway said. “This is Emma Mathews.”
A tall boy, around her age, with long eyelashes and coffee-ice-cream skin glanced at her then looked away. The sun coming through the Diversity Club’s rainbow mobile made his thick dark hair look indigo blue.
“Joe moved here from Wolfeboro two weeks ago,” Mr. Norway said. “Today is his first day at Henry Dearborn High School.”
“Oh,” Emma said.

Excerpt:
“What’s wrong with your shoulder?”
“Nothing.”
“Bullshit.”
I glance at him. “What do you care?”
“You’re spending the summer in the mountains. It’s only going to get worse if you don’t get it looked at.”
“What would you know?”
He shrugs. “I know.”
“Maybe I’ll see a doctor.”
“Come here.”
“Absolutely not.”
I hear him chuckle, and every instinct tells me to run, but even as I hear the dull thud of his workboots approach, I stand still. He stops when he’s next to me, close enough that I can hear his breathing.
“You mind?”
I look at him out the corner of my eye. “Mind what?”
He raises his hand, and it hovers above my shoulder for a split second, waiting for my refusal. When it’s not forthcoming he lifts his other hand, holds my shoulder in his fingers and probes gently, feeling around the base of my neck and down along my shoulder blade.
I stifle a groan. What he’s doing feels amazing, but I’ll never admit it.
“You’ve got a knot here,” he says, zeroing in on a spot that feels distinctly not-amazing.
I try to shift away but the hand on my shoulder tightens, holding me in place.
“You have to rub it out.”
I risk a look at his face but he’s concentrated on his task, presumably watching his fingers rub a hole in my skin—that’s how hard they’re pressing. I arch my back to move away but his grip is like iron.
“Take a deep breath,” he orders.
I realize I’m holding my breath so he doesn’t hear me whimper, and I quickly inhale.
He laughs softly. “Do you like it?” he asks.
“No,” I breathe.
“Because it hurts?”
“Yes.”
“It’ll get worse before it gets better.”
“That’s stupid.”
He presses harder, and I cry out, wrenching away. This time he lets me go.
“I can’t do this now,” I gasp, one hand wrapped over my shoulder to press on the now-tender spot.
“You have to work it out,” he says, but doesn’t try to come closer.
“Maybe another time,” I manage. “I have to work.”
Shane shrugs. “Any time.”
“No,” I say. “No other time. I’ll go to town, find a professional.”
He smiles faintly. “Suit yourself, Kate.”

is suddenly in danger . . .
Acclaimed author Katie Alender brings heart-stopping suspense to this story of revenge,
betrayal, intrigue — and one killer queen.
My Review:
I received Marie Antoinette, Serial Killer by Katie Alender from Scholastic and this is my honest review.
Colette Iselin is a teenage girl who is dealing with her parents recent divorce. Her mother feels guilty because everything they had basically went down the drain, so she works her butt off to give Colette what she deserves which is a trip to Paris with her french class. This is basically where the whole book takes place and the descriptions were so beautiful.
I liked how Alender split up the actual chapters of the book with the murders so as soon as you saw the italicized print you knew someone was about to die which excited me it was pretty suspenseful. There were a few things about the book that kind of annoyed me though. First often in the book there were different french phrases whenever a character was talking to someone who only spoke french which would have been fine if they gave some sort of clue as to what it meant because I don’t speak french so every time there was a french line I was pretty annoyed because I had no clue what was being said. Also Colettes personality up until the end of course drove me up a wall! Don’t get me wrong I liked Colette she had a good heart but she really was a coward and I wish she would have stood up to people especially Hannah god I hated her.
There were parts that I loved as well though like the moment on top of the Eiffel Tower with Jules and Colette that moment made the whole book for me it was so sweet! Well every moment with Jules & Colette was extremely sweet. On a totally different note the whole Marie Antoinette serial killer thing was pretty interesting. I enjoyed these parts of the book because there was never a stop in facts. Colette and her friends were always finding out new and very interesting things that were both exciting and life threatening.
Even though the annoying things almost outweighed the awesome things I did enjoy this book for so many reasons, and I’ve heard that Alenders books were amazing so I cannot wait to get my hands on them.
