(If only it were that easy.)

When her parents split, Marcie is dragged from Idaho to a family summerhouse in New Hampshire. She leaves behind her friends, a group of freaks and geeks called the Leftovers, including her emo-rocker boyfriend, and her father. By the time Labor Day rolls around, Marcie suspects this "vacation" has become permanent. She starts at a new school where a cute boy brings her breakfast and a new romance heats up.

About the Author
Raised without television, Sarah Tregay started writing her own middle grade novels after she had read all of the ones in the library. She later discovered YA books, but never did make it to the adult section. When she's not jotting down poems at stoplights, she can be found hanging out with her "little sister" from Big Brothers Big Sisters. Sarah lives in Eagle, Idaho with her husband, two Boston Terriers, and an appaloosa named Mr. Pots. Her next book, Fan Art, will be released in June.

Guest Post: Character Interview with Marcie:

Hi, I’m Marcie Foster. Love and Leftovers about me and what happened when my dad came out of the closet and I got stuck on summer vacation in East Nowhere, New Hampshire without my friends, the Leftovers, my boyfriend, Linus, or my security blanket.

So, you like to write?

I am a compulsive journal writer. I can’t live without my blue notebook. Writing poems in my notebook helps me make sense of my life and how I feel about it, sort of like psychotherapy, only a lot less expensive. And it’s private. Well, unless… never mind.

What makes a good story?

Every good story has a love story in it, like those romance novels Aunt Greta leaves behind and my mom abhors. Okay, so maybe I’m a little preoccupied with the idea of falling in love.

What is a novel in verse?

A verse novel is written in a series of poems. All together, the poems reveal the story.

Who is your best friend?

My best friend is Katie Raskolnikov—the blonde with a pink streak in her hair. Yes, I noticed. Her socks don’t match. We’ve been best friends since sixth grade. Yeah, I’ve gotten used to the hair. And the socks. Did you know she has a tattoo?

Do you have a boyfriend? A crush?

Both. Oops. I shouldn’t tell you that. You’ll post it on your blog.

See there’s J.D. in New Hampshire. Think Prince Harry and throw in a little David Beckham (or other soccer-playing hunk of yumminess) and add an New England accent. Adorable. And he brings me breakfast.

Then there’s Linus, my boyfriend, back in Boise. He’s sweet and 4.0-smart with deep, espresso brown eyes. He’s the youngest of four boys and wears hand-me-down t-shirts that are all soft and huggable. He writes me love songs and posts them on YouTube. Who couldn’t love a guy like that?

DYLAN:
I try to un-want things. It’s my latest challenge. And I’m continually broke, so it works out. Every day people make lists of the things they want, or the things they need. Shopping lists, to-do lists, grocery lists. I make it a challenge to un-want things. To see what I can do without. I un-want new shoes and make do with my dirty, worn out ones. I glue the soles together and sew holes. I un-want a new backpack and sew a patch on the one I have. Casting something away it easy, but just because it frays, just because it shows signs of age doesn’t mean it’s worthless. It’s amazing how well things hold up if you give them extra love.
I un-wanted getting a haircut and let it grow wild until I cut it myself. I un-want makeup and let my freckles stand out. And strangely, in all the unneeding, I seem to gain more.
I look up at the door Gray just walked out of. No matter how hard I try, I can’t un-want you. I can’t un-need you. Sometimes we don’t know what we need until we’re shown what we need. Up until then, we’re only making blind guesses. Sometimes, even when we think we’re roaming, we’re just traveling in a long circle that eventually leads us home.

GRAY:
I walk into the bedroom and sit down on the bed. Dylan isn’t here; it gives me a chance for a mental pep talk. I run my hands through my hair. I have to mentally rise above the situation. I can’t let my mind go there. I can’t let myself remember. I can’t let myself want her. She is the one thing I can never have.
I look up at the door she’s about to walk through. I gave you up. I realized I wasn’t born to love you. I was born to lose you. You are my sad song.  My melancholy mix. My regrets, my what ifs. You are my past until you suddenly crashed into my present. But you will never be my future.
I replay that sentence over and over in my head.

Strange Sweet Song by Adi Rule
Synopsis: A young soprano enrolls in a remote music academy where nothing, not even her mysterious young vocal coach, is as it seems

Outside Dunhammond Conservatory, there lies a dark forest. And in the forest, they say, lives a great beast called the Felix. But Sing da Navelli never put much faith in the rumors and myths surrounding the school; music flows in her blood, and she is there to sing for real. This prestigious academy will finally give her the chance to prove her worth—not as the daughter of world-renowned musicians—but as an artist and leading lady in her own right.

Yet despite her best efforts, there seems to be something missing from her voice. Her doubts about her own talent are underscored by the fact that she is cast as the understudy in the school's production of her favorite opera, Angelique. Angelique was written at Dunhammond, and the legend says that the composer was inspired by forest surrounding the school, a place steeped in history, magic, and danger. But was it all a figment of his imagination, or are the fantastic figures in the opera more than imaginary?

Sing must work with the mysterious Apprentice Nathan Daysmoor as her vocal coach, who is both her harshest critic and staunchest advocate. But Nathan has secrets of his own, secrets that are entwined with the myths and legends surrounding Dunhammond, and the great creature they say lives there.

Lyrical, gothic, and magical, Strange Sweet Song by Adi Rule will captivate and enchant readers.

My Review:
I received Seven Day Fiance by Rachel Harris from the publisher and this is my honest review.

There was no hesitation when accepting this book for review considering I read the companion novel, Taste The Heat and absolutely loved it. This novel is Cane Robicheaux’s story and that is the most exciting part of all. We meet Cane in the first book and he comes off as the protective older brother which is sweet.

The little glimpse of Cane we get in book is not enough, which is why him getting his own story was an amazing idea. It was great getting to know bad boy Cane a little better I fell in love with him more than I fell in love with Jason in the first book. Moving on to the other main character, Angel. I cannot remember off the top of my head if we met Angel in the first book, but either way she was the sweetest character. She had an absolute heart of gold, and it was awful every time she was hurting because I felt the pain right along with her.

The concept of the novel was a little strange, I mean Angel took Cane back to her hometown and pretended he was her fiance just to make her family feel like she was happy and doing well where she was. In the beginning, I was not sure how I felt about that but as I got farther into the book I realized how cute and cozy they were getting together and I loved it.

There were a few moments in the book were I was so mad at Cane because he was really screwing up, but he fixed all the messes he made so it ended up being okay in the end. Overall this book gets a solid 5 out of 5 stars, Rachel’s writing just keeps getting better and better.

Excerpt
" I knew the day was not going to end well as soon as I saw the gun. It bulged in the outside pocket of his backpack, hidden unless someone looked for it. Of course, I had to be the one looking for it.
Chad kept his head down in class, his pen scratching dark lines of some doodle across his paper. I couldn’t drag my gaze away from him.
He’d brought a gun. Damn it. He was going to follow through with his plan.
I was focusing so hard on the knot of guilt in my stomach and the tangle of plans to stop Chad that Bea had to kick my chair to alert me class had started. Of course, Bea had to be in this class with the homicidal kid who was my responsibility.
I did a quick head count. It was Friday, half-day schedule, last period, with spring break starting next week. Most everyone had ditched already, and only thirteen people remained, including our teacher.
Unfortunately, just enough of the students on Chad’s list stayed for the last class. "

>I have my doctorate in molecular anthropology. Translation: I sequence dead people's DNA and spend a whole lot of time in a lab, which I love.
>I've been writing since I was 11 years old. It's my hobby, my passion, and I'm so happy to get to share my work!
>My other passion is teaching. There's nothing more fun than getting a classroom of college kids fired up about anthropology!
>If I could have a super-power, it would totally be flying. Which is a little strange, because I'm terrified of heights.

Review: Dead River by Cyn Balog

Dead River by Cyn Balog
Publisher: Delacorte Press
Release Date: April 9, 2013
Number of Pages: 242
Book Format: Hardcover
Synopsis: My friends and I are spending prom weekend at a remote wooded cabin on the Dead. The Dead River. I thought it was going to be just us.I was wrong. Nothing is what it seems in this creepy paranormal thriller by Cyn Balog.

Meet The Author:

Cyn Balog is a normal, everyday Jersey Girl who always believed magical things can happen to us when we least expect them. She is author of young adult paranormals FAIRY TALE (2009), SLEEPLESS(2010), STARSTRUCK (2011), TOUCHED (2012), and her most recent release: DEAD RIVER (2013).e. She lives outside Allentown, Pennsylvania with her husband and daughters.

She also writes under the pen name Nichola Reilly. Nichola Reilly is Cyn Balog's post-apocalyptic fantasy-writing alter-ego. The first book in her series, DROWNED, will be releasing from Harlequin TEEN sometime in 2014, followed by a sequel, BURIED, in 2015.

My Review:
I borrowed Dead River Cyn Balog from work and this is my honest review!

Dead River is about a girl named Kiandra who decides to accompany her boyfriend and cousin up to a cabin to go white water rafting. She has to lie to her father in the process though because a few years back her mother drowned herself in a river near by her house. From that day on her father has always kept a close eye on Kiandra when it comes to water.

This book jumped out at me because of its chilling cover but also because of the size of the book. I needed a quick read to get in in between review books. Sadly I was disappointed, don’t get me wrong I enjoyed the book but I could not get into it for long periods at a time. I had to read it slowly which took away from the book for me.
The characters intrigued me quite a bit but it would have been nice if there was a little bit more development to them, or if the readers could have gotten to know them better I felt like the characters were really distant.

There were a few parts in the book that got my attention pretty nicely. The point in the book when Kiandra falls off the side of the raft and goes into her own little world for awhile I loved that part. There was the perfect amount of action and mystery. As well as when everyone was sitting around the campfire telling scary stories. The stories everyone told gave me the chills so badly and I loved it!

Overall the book was okay not something I would consider reading again. But I would definitely give other books by the author a try, because I have looked at a few of them and they sound pretty interesting.
