Nobody But Us by Kristin Halbrook
Publisher: Harper Teen
Publication Date: February 2013
Book Format: ARC
Number of Pages: 291
My Rating: 4 of 5 stars
I received Nobody But Us from Around The World ARC Tours for my honest review.
Nobody But Us is about a young couple who are both going through really tough situations in their lives that they need to get away from so that is just what they do. They hop into a car and off they go on the run from their lives. Will whose 18 and Zoe whose 15 are the sweetest couple I've met so far. I've read a lot of books and I've never read about one that was in love as much as these two are.
After reading something I did not like was that the book jumped right into the story, and usually that does not bother most people but this kind of book I think getting to know the characters a little bit before we jumped into it would have made the story better for me. There's one more thing I kind of did not enjoy but we will talk about that later. One of the reasons I loved this book is because seeing how much these two loved each other made me feel all mushy the entire time I read the book.
No matter what happened to these two or between these too I was glued to their side throughout the entire book, I honestly could not get enough of them. I think I fell for Will because he is the kind of guy that I am usually attracted to so it was easier for me understand him and feel sympathy. I also loved Zoe's character too I felt sorry for what she had gone through but I was really glad that she had Will to be there for her and take care of her. Even though there was some crappy heart break in this book for me I still loved following the story.
That is the last thing I wanted to talk about. I read a lot of books so I am very used to endings disappointing me sometimes but I have to say it is still surprising when it happens. The reason I say that is because you pick up a book and you love the bulk of it and then the ending comes and your like yes the best part and your just left disappointed. I would love to say it does not happen often but it kind of does. Luckily the ending was not extremely bad so the book still gets a 4 out of 5 stars and I would still recommend it to anyone!

Fractured Soul Tour: Book Spotlight
Fractured Soul by Rachel McClellan
Synopsis: I’m dying, I thought. This was unexpected and not at all how I envisioned my death. I was supposed to die gardening in a flowerbed as a hundred-year-old woman, not as a seventeen-year-old trapped in a lake beneath inches of ice.
Llona Reese is used to living on the run. After the Vykens killed her parents, she knew they would eventually come for her too. She can’t take any chances. But when she starts to make friends for the first time in her life, she gets careless and lets her guard down. Big mistake.
As an Aura, Llona can manipulate light and harness its energy. But if she wants to survive, Llona will have to defy the Auran Council and learn to use her power as a weapon against the Vyken whose sole desire is to take her light. Now she’s caught in something even bigger than she can understand, with a power she can’t wield, and no one she can trust, except, just maybe, a mysterious stranger.
In this breathtaking and romantic adventure, Rachel McClellan delivers a truly mesmerizing story that will keep you guessing to the very end.

Forged In Grace Book Blitz
Forged in Grace by Jordan E. Rosenfeld
Publication Date: February 2013
Synopsis: Grace Jensen survived a horrific fire at age 15. The flames changed her: badly scarred in body and mind, Grace developed an ability to feel other people’s pain. Unable to bear human touch, she has made a small life for herself in Northern California, living with her hoarder mother, tending wounded animals, and falling a little in love with her former doctor. Her safe world explodes when the magnetic Marly Kennet reappears in town; Grace falls right back into the dynamic of their complicated friendship. Marly is the holder of many secrets, including one that has haunted Grace for over a decade: what really happened the night of the fire?
When Marly exhorts Grace to join her in Las Vegas, to make up for the years they have been lost to each other, Grace takes a leap of faith and goes. Although Marly is not entirely honest about her intentions, neither woman anticipates that enlarging Grace’s world will magnify her ability to sense the suffering of others—or that she will begin to heal wounds by swallowing her own pain and laying her hands on the afflicted.
This gift soon turns darker when the truth of Marly’s life—and the real reason she ended her friendship with Grace—pushes the boundaries of loyalty and exposes both women to danger.

Girls, a Love Story
By Jordan E. Rosenfeld
Author of Forged in Grace
When I first began writing FORGED IN GRACE, or rather, when the character of Marly whispered in my ear while I stoked a fire in a little cabin overlooking a wild river, I knew right away this would be a story about female friends. I didn’t know it would be a dark exploration, but when all was said and done, I continue to think of this novel as a “dark love story of friendship.” That is to say, it’s a story that celebrates the powerful bonds that young girls forge with one another as they act as surrogates to each other for the mature relationships that will come down the road.
I’ve been fortunate to have a lot of friends in my life, but as a girl, I only had one best friend, Sacha. The tried-and-truebestie who was part sister, part romantic stand-in, part keeper of secrets. She could make me feel good or break my heart all in the same day. She was an athlete to my bookworm, daring and brave where I was timid. She came from a loud family with brothers and two European parents. I was a latch-key kid from a “broken” home with two hippie parents.
Like Grace does Marly in the novel, I adored and was slightly in awe of Sacha. She bounced back from sleightswhile I wilted. She took the world head on, while I crept at it from the shadows. We fought, sometimes for days, butalways came back together. Not until high school—though Sacha was a year older than I was—did a wedge come between us, and that wedge was, natch, another girl, named Shawna. A prettier, more sophisticated, worldly girl than me who didn’t use “too big” words and needed to wear a bra. Quickly I became replaced. It was a theme that would repeat in my life as part of the messy geometry of friendship. A theme that seems to happen to so many girls, teaching the painful lesson of jealousy and self-esteem, of loyalty and betrayal.
In FORGED IN GRACE, Grace has an unhealthy bond with the bold, beautiful Marly. Grace wants what Marly seems to have. And yet Marly is all pretense and façade. Her external world hides the darkness she keeps tucked away. What Grace thinks she wants, Marly may not actually have, and vice versa. And it’s up to Grace to realize her own talents and power in order to come to see the friendship for what it was, and is. A lesson many girls can use.
Many of my favorite books and movies about dark female friendships touch upon an overt or indirect sexuality between the girls. As an adult I can see now that most of these friendships are not, explicitly, sexual—barring those that really are, of course, and that’s not what I’m talking about in this piece—but rather girls, with their fluid and often early developed emotional lives, need to start exercising these feelings before the boys get around to it. They test them on each other, for better or worse. They project things onto one another that will someday be meant for their mates. In the best of scenarios, they forge life-long friendships; in others, jealousy and competition draw them apart.
As an adult, lucky to have a circle of dear, trusted women friends with whom I can talk honestly and show my dark and messy sides, I now look back on the friends of my youth with a clearer eye. It was my girlfriends upon whom I first tested the strategies of what would someday become my grown-up relationships at slumber parties where we whispered to the night sky our deepest desires and fears. Like Grace, those early friendships are important artifacts that reveal precious information to me about myself.

Radiant Book Blitz
Radiant by Christina Daley
Synopsis: Mary is part Vietnamese. Carter is a complete jerk. Normally, they don't talk much.
But when Mary's in an accident on the way to school one morning, Carter nearly dies saving her life. The doctors say his chances of living are slim, and Mary's feeling the full weight of survivor's guilt.
However, Carter's back at school in a matter of days, as if nothing had happened. Although, he is a little "glitchy," and he's developed a sudden and intense interest in Mary. She thinks he's suffering from major brain trauma from the accident. Or that he's been possessed.
As it so happens, Carter really is possessed. And the thing controlling him is having the time of its life learning to be human.
Featuring a diverse cast of characters, RADIANT is a funny "paranormal-lite" story about being human, being in love, and being healed.

Christina Daley made her first book with neighborhood friends when she was four years old. They "wrote" out some semblance of lettering with crayons, cut up a cardboard box for the cover, and bound it all together with clear adhesive tape. It was brilliant.
Quite a few years later, Christina is trying her hand at writing "real" books. She lives in Dallas, Texas, with a pet plant named Herb.

Excerpt 1:
A voice called to her. It seemed close, and it was getting louder as the pain got sharper. "Hey? Hey! Are you all right?" itasked.
Mary blinked several times before she could finally see again. She was in the middle of the street. The cars had stopped and people on the sidewalk were staring.
"Are you all right?" the voice asked again. It was coming from a man wearing some type of uniform.
"What…?" Mary tried to say more, but her voice suddenlystopped working.
"Careful," he said as he helped her up. "Looks like you can move all right. Here, let's get you out of the street."
He helped her over to the sidewalk. "Stay here. Someone's calling the paramedics." And then he was gone.
Mary sat there, still in a daze. She started noticing familiar stuff all over the ground—an open book bag, books, folders, unused tampons, a shoe, and an apple with one bite mark. Her eyes followed the trail of debris to a brilliant red sports car, half of which was smashed in by a city bus.
What had happened? Mary studied the whole scene, trying to puzzle together the pieces. Then it dawned on her. The car had hit her. Not intentionally. She had run in front of the bus without knowing it. It was about to hit her, but the car had gotten in the way first. It had saved her life.
Mary thought about looking in the car. Then her feet sortamoved without her meaning them to, and she made her way to the passenger door. She recognized the person inside. Carter. She knew his last name, but she couldn't think of what it was. He was slumped over the seat with blood oozing all over his face. His eyes were shut.
Mary knocked on the window. The tears in her hand stung.
No response.
She beat the window with her fist.
Still nothing.
Mary stared. She couldn't believe it. On any other day, she wouldn't exchange two words with this guy. Just yesterday, he nearly mowed down an elderly couple while driving out of the school lot. Mary had secretly wished he'd be taught a lesson. But she didn't mean this.
She tried the door handle, but it was still locked. Suddenly,Carter's eyes flickered opened. He looked straight at her.
Mary gasped and pressed her face against the window.
Carter's eyes closed.
She stared at him, waiting for him to open them again. Waiting for any sign of life. But he was still like he was before.
Hands suddenly took hold of Mary, pulling her away from the car. Her feet moved on their own again. Someone was yelling "Miss" a lot. Parts of her brain found other noises too, like sirens, voices, beeping, and other things. The hands directed her to sit on something hard and cold.
"Miss? Can you hear me? Can you tell me your name?"
Mary didn't answer. She still hadn't found her voice, and her mind was fuzzy, too.
"Is that her bag there? Does she have a driver's license?"
A different person spoke. "No license, but I found a student ID. Her name's Mary Phan. She's seventeen and a junior here at Lewis Prep."
Mary heard a third voice. "I just talked with some of the kids on the sidewalk. One of them said her mom's a nurse at the memorial hospital."
"Find out how to contact the mom. Anyone see what happened?"
"Cops are questioning witnesses right now. Looks like she ran in front of the bus. It would've nailed her if that sportster hadn't gotten in the way."
"Anything on the bus or the driver of the car?"
"Everyone on the bus looks fine. The car belongs to a kidnamed Carter Maxwell. Also a junior." A sigh. "I wouldn't hold my breath. He looks really bad in there."

Review: And Sometimes Why by Rebecca Johnson
And Sometimes Why by Rebecca Johnson
Publisher: Putman Adult
Publication Date: February 18, 2008
Book Format: Hardcover
Number of Pages: 320
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
And Sometimes Why has been on my bookshelf for quite sometime and this year I am participating in the TBR Pile Challenge so this will help me with that. This is also my honest review.
This is the story of two "families" going through a really tough time. We meet Sophia and her family who consists of her husband Darious and two daughters Miranda, and Helen. The other family is actor Harry Harlow and his wife Catherine. I do not want to spoil the book for anyways so I will say this, somehow these two familes cross eachothers path and theres a tragedy that we will watch them work through.
I very much enjoyed this book I enjoyed seeing all the characters evolve in their life, I liked watching them change some for the better some for the worse. We met Sophia who is a mother of two and a wife and we watch her kind of live her life questioning everything she does. We watch her husband Darious use his smarts to try and help one of his daughters. We also see both of there daughters, two completely different people go down two completely different and scary roads.
The second family is much different from the first. We meet Harry who is an actor and is in between jobs and this is causing problems in his marriage to his wife Catherine, who we do meet in the book but we don't really know much about her so I can't say much about her.
Something I enjoyed about the book but at the same time did not like is how many different point of views were in the book. Now don't get my wrong I love switching it up a little bit in the story because that is what keeps a book interesting but there were some point of views in the story that I did not understand nor did I think were necesary. For example on the set of Harry's show there was a camera man named Anton I'm not going to tell you what happens to him but there are random chapters in the story that are all his point of view which confused me because he really didn't have anything to do with the story.
Overall the book gets a 4 out of 5 stars because I enjoyed the characters and the authors writing. I'm hoping to be able to read more of her work in the future.

Now Phoebe’s lessons about Shaper’s enemies and spycraft take on great importance as a menace stalks the campus, with Phoebe as its target. Meanwhile, what began as an unlikely relationship with Colten, quickly morphs into heartache when she suspects that something sinister lurks beneath this movie star’s glitter and fame. Suddenly, Phoebe’s caught in a mesh of lies, betrayals, and danger where she doesn’t know who to trust, and needs to rely on herself—and her secret power—to get to the truth and to stay alive.
Sixteen-year-old Phoebe Pope has enrolled at the Campus Below: a spy academy for shape-shifters hidden deep beneath the grounds of a boarding school whose humans unknowingly protect it. There, thanks to a carefully planned schedule, she leads a double life: spy trainee Below and normal teenager Above.

Interview:
P: What is your favorite part of being an author?
N: I really love the writing process. It's like putting together a complex puzzle. All of the right pieces have to come together to animate a story. It's magic when that happens!
P: Have you always wanted to be an author?
N: I think I've always wanted to tell stories. As a kid, I was always the storyteller in a group. So far I've been able to tell my stories through songwriting and novel writing. I feel very lucky.
P: Where is your favorite place to write?
N: I love writing while sitting on a sofa. It has to be a very deep sofa though - the kind where my feet can't touch the ground. Isurround myself with pillows and call it my writing nest.
P: Where did you get the inspiration for your book?
N: The inspiration for Phoebe Pope and the Year of Four came to me as a screenplay. I saw the idea of a secret paranormal school, within a regular school, as a movie and so I set out to write it. I didn't get too far because I couldn't figure out how to incorporate all of the paranormal elements into a screenplay. So, I switched gears and decided to write the book instead.
P: What can we expect from you in the future?
N: I'm excited to see what the future holds! I plan to continue Phoebe's adventure. I hope to write some new songs and would love to try my hand at writing a graphic novel.
N: Thank you so much for hosting me here today. I really appreciate it! xoxo Nya
