If you would have asked me two weeks ago if I would ever read a book about football, my answer would have been HELL NO! but now after finishing Dairy Queen by Catherine Gilbert Murdock my answer is HELL YES!! I really enjoyed this little contemporary novel about a girl who trains the star QB on her rivals team. In the middle of training him two things happen. First she falls in love with her rival. Then she decides she wants to play football on her schools team. This throws in a few complications though because one she wants to play against the guy she’s fallen for and she doesn’t tell him that she’s trying out for the football team. So you can imagine all the problems that brings.

D.J. is such a great character. I love that she’s writing the whole story. It put’s an awesome perspective on the book. She never complained about having to work on the farm so much and she never had these big crying fits only when it was really necessary did she cry and that was one of my favorite things about her.

Brian, What can I say I liked him from the start which is weird for me because I’m not a jock kind of girl at all what’s so ever. But this one grew on me probably because he was a little bit sensitive when he talked about his dad which made me feel for him.

Now D.J.’s family? I’m not sure what I can really say her Dad was a normal dad to me he didn’t say much just put his kids to work and drove them away until he finally realized. Her mother who sat back and watched her kids slowly move away. Her brother Curtis who you think would be a mime but I think he was just afraid of being cut off from the family so he kept his mouth shut.

Dairy Queen definitely deserves 5 out of 5 stars. I loved the whole plot and I mean Cows and Football? Who knew it would make such great story!

  2. I've heard so many great things about this book. I don't read too many non-paranormal books but I want to try this one sometime. Sounds cute. I actually didn't realize it was that much about football. I have Catching Jordan to read too and that is supposed to be a lot about football.
